The factory HELM manual says 10W-30 is the preferred recommended oil from something like 10 below zero to 32 deg above zero (freezing point of water) and also O-K to run up to 90 degrees, but 15W-40 is preferred from freezing to 90. Colder than 10 below 5W-30 is recommended.
Application. Shell Rotella ® T1 oils are suitable for use in many turbo- and non-turbocharged light/medium-duty diesel-powered trucks and transport operations, including city operations and long-distance service. Shell Rotella ® T1 can provide dependable lubrication for small-to-medium-agricultural equipment, such as tractors.

Only use this chart to find an oil equivalent to the manufacturer’s recommended oil for your tractor or truck. You may notice that ISO 46 can replace both 15W and 20W SAE oils. This is because the ISO specifications are broad, and they overlap with SAE weights in some cases. If your tractor or truck calls for 20W hydraulic oil, it may be best
The Synthetic 5w-40 just says that the 40 weight oil will maintain a 40 weight viscosity down to 5 degrees vs. 15 degrees for the conventional. FWIW, I saw absolutely no difference between Rotella conventional and synthetic excpet about $10/gallon less money in my pocket for the Rotella Synthetic.
There is a difference between 10w40 motor oil and 20w40 motor oil. However, there are not many differences at all. So let us get to know the differences between 10w40 motor oil and 20w40 motor oil in terms of viscosity, fuel economy, and hot weather. Viscosity. The 10w40 motor oil means that the 10w meant winter. It means that the motor oil
If the 0w30 motor oil and 10w30 motor oil are heated up, these motor oils will have the same viscosity. The advantage of a 0w30 motor oil is that the number zero is far from thirty (30) than ten (10). On the other hand, the 0w30 motor oil will break down faster than the 10w30 motor oil. So in using 0w30 motor oil in replacement to the 10w30
The second number describes how thick the oil is at the engine’s normal operating temperature. The higher the second number, the thicker the oil. If it's too thin when hot, it may not protect effectively. If it's too thick, you lose efficiency. The correct viscosity grade will be displayed in your car handbook.
The Penrite HPR 15 Diesel 15W-50 is semi-synthetic and JASO MA rated, plus ACEA A3/B4/E7, API SL / CI4+. I saw Valvoline full synthetic SynPower 10W-50 on sale at SuperCheap a few weeks ago. Another full synthetic car oil, I haven't used it yet, but it was a good price and I would happily put it in my bike.
The W that is between the numbers stands for winter. The number after the W represents the viscosity of the motor oil at high temperatures. The higher the number, the thicker the oil will be. 5w-40 Vs 15w-40: Key Things In Common Multigrade oil. The 5w-40 and 15w-40 are both multigrade oil.
In Brad’s case, his 15W-50 racing oil may be too thick to flow quickly enough to fill the spaces between the crank journals and main bearings while the engine is running. The oil won’t form a consistent lubricating film, allowing metal-to-metal contact and wear. His engine was designed specifically to use a lower-viscosity oil, in this case
10W - 40 oil is a little thinner than oil with a grade of say 15W - 50 or 20W - 40/50. In the Philippines it is better to use thicker oil like the 20W - 40/50 because it is hot and you do not need thinner oil that would lubricate at low temperatures. However, this is not the end of the story. We have oils now that are synthetic and mineral based.
Valvoline Premium Blue One Solution SAE 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil 1 GA. Related Questions and Answers Which is better 10W30 or 15W40? 10W-30 oil’s film strength may be lower and it may be more susceptible to oxidation than 15W-40 oil. As a result, superior additives are required to make a 10W-30 engine oil as effective and long-lasting as a
Phillips 66 Lubricants: World-class products and services. The Kendall 15w40 meets the API service requirements for gasoline and diesel. The gasoline SN rating with the CJ-4 diesel rating. 12,235. Location. Florida, Cape Coral. Oct 9, 2018. #8. There are some low grade 30 weights out in the market that arn't suitable for anything but the oil can. If a 30 is spected for diesel use then OK, otherwise use a stout 10w30 (T5) or a 15w40. JMO. B&S recommends a 5w30 Synthetic for ALL it's engines.Ed.
A decent race oil will take about 10 hours of hard track use and a semi-syntehtic or hydrocracked base stock will last about an hour before the oil begins to lose viscosity. Are 5w and 0w oils too thin? I read on many forums about 0w and 5w oils being too thin. 0w-40, 5w-40, 10w-40 and 15w-40 are all the same thickness (14 centistokes) at 100degC.

Iowa. Aug 7, 2020. #3. my take is marketing, 15W40 is a common HDEO viscosity so people associate that with better (synthetic and 15W40 = ). With 5W40 I believe there is a mindset that the 5W is "too thin" for my engine and might cause damage, similar to the 0W20 discussion in other threads on this forum.

The Final Verdict on 5w30 vs 10w30 for High Mileage. Both high mileage 5w30 and 10w30 engine oils have the same additives, the only difference is the viscosity at cold startups. Since both oils have the same operating temperature viscosity (30) and additives, they will perform exactly the same. However, 5w30 flows much better than 10w30 during

With that in mind, it is easy to understand that an oil with 5w in the rating will offer better low temperature performance than an oil with 10w in the rating. This is because, regardless of their viscosities at operating temperature, 5w oil will always be thinner than 10w oil. wvJNz.
